Metallica announces concerts in Philly

While the 2024 open-air concert season is coming to an end, next year’s season is already taking shape.

Metallica will kick things off. The heavy rock quartet “Enter Sandman” will play in Philadelphia for the first time since 2018 on May 23 and 25, when they come to Lincoln Financial Field for two nights.

The hard-hitting quartet of frontman James Hetfield, drummer Lars Ulrich, guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo are coming to South Philly on a just-announced leg of their M72 World Tour, which concludes its 2024 run in Mexico City this month.

The band is touring with their 11th studio album 72 seasonswhich was released in 2023.

Metallica has been a frequent guest in Philadelphia, playing the Wells Fargo Center in 2018 and previously playing the Linc, JFK Stadium (on the 1988 Monsters of Rock tour), Veterans Stadium, and the Spectrum, as well as a free concert in the parking lot of the Wells Fargo Center (then called the Core States Center) in 1997.

This year, country singer Zach Bryan was the only act to perform two concerts at the Eagles’ football stadium, on two consecutive nights in August.

The two Metallica shows at the Linc are part of the band’s “No Repeat Weekend” tradition and include completely different setlists and different openers on the two evenings.

Limp Bizkit and Ice Nine Kills will open the show on Friday night and Pantera and Suicidal Tendencies will play on the second night.

Tickets can be purchased for individual nights or as a two-night package. Fan club presales begin at 10am on September 23rd and general ticket sales begin at 10am on September 27th. For more information, visit metallica.com.
