Michael Che reveals Colin Jost’s SNL joke that left him ‘frustrated’

Michael Che and Colin Jost are used to poking fun at each other, Saturday Night Live‘s “Weekend Update,” but there’s one joke that previously left Che “frustrated.”

In a recent interview on the Fly on the Wall with Dana Carvey and David Spade Podcast, the two SNL The cast were asked if they ever said to each other after the news segment on NBC’s sketch comedy show, “If you do that again, I’ll kick your ass.”

“Yeah, I think the jalapeño thing really annoyed me,” Che replied, to which Jost quipped, “You were just annoyed that it worked so well.”

During the season 40 finale, which aired in May 2015, the two comedians brought back a joke that had been cut from an earlier episode. “Ohio police arrested a woman who allegedly stabbed her boyfriend because he ate all her salsa,” Jost said at the time. “But you’d be mad too if your boyfriend had something against jalapeños.”

“I remember the run-through when you did it because I had never heard it before. I don’t remember the introduction, but the punch line was ‘jalapeño business,'” Che said. “And I was like, ‘If you tell that joke live, I’m leaving. I’m leaving the show.’ And he did it live and it was awesome. And I was so frustrated. I was so frustrated. I was like, ‘I don’t even know what we’re doing anymore.'”

Jost added: “I would have honestly cut it out if it didn’t upset you so much. And then I thought to myself, ‘I’m definitely doing that, definitely.'”

Che and Jost have been co-anchors on “Weekend Update” since the season 40 premiere, making them the longest-tenured hosts of the segment. And they are expected to return for SNLThe 50th season is a milestone and will premiere on September 28th on NBC and Peacock.
