MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle interviews Kamala Harris just days after she said she was “not striving for perfection”

MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle will interview Kamala Harris on Wednesday, less than a week after defending the Democratic presidential candidate on “Real Time with Bill Maher.”

Ruhle’s defense came in a heated exchange with fellow panelist Bret Stephens. The New York Times columnist asked Ruhle about Harris’ lack of press interviews since becoming the nominee and said it would be great if she clarified her position on Israel-Palestine. Ruhle said she was not so much concerned about Harris’ silence as she was about the “threat” of another Donald Trump presidency.

“Let’s say you don’t like her answer – will you vote for Donald Trump?” Ruhle asked Stephens. “Kamala Harris is not striving for perfection, she is running against Trump.”

Ruhle continued: “We have two options, so there are some things you may not know your answer to. And in 2024 – unlike 2016 – many Americans know exactly what Trump is going to do, who he is and what kind of threat he poses to democracy.”

Stephens told Ruhle that he would not vote for Trump, but would still like to hear more from the incumbent vice president.

“I don’t think it’s too much to ask her to do a real interview as opposed to a laudatory article,” Stephens said.

Rühle said again that it was no big deal.

“All I would say is, if you move to Nirvana, give me your real estate agent’s number and I’ll be your neighbor,” Ruhle said. “We don’t live there.”

On Wednesday, Harris will give her first one-on-one interview with a network since being elected as the nominee. (Harris previously did a joint interview with her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, with CNN’s Dana Bash on Aug. 29.) Ruhle’s interview with Harris will be taped in Pittsburgh and aired on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET in a two-hour edition of “All in With Chris Hayes.”

Last week, Oprah Winfrey hosted a town hall meeting with Harris that was attended by numerous Hollywood stars; Harris received celebrity support during the event from Meryl Streep, Bryan Cranston, Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, Tracee Ellis Ross, Jennifer Lopez and Julia Roberts.

According to Fox News, Trump and his running mate JD Vance have given 58 interviews since Harris and Walz’s slate was announced as of Wednesday. Harris and Walz have given a total of 21 interviews during the same period.
