SYRACUSE – Firefighters remain at the scene of a fire at the Main Channel Marina, 720 S. Lakeside Drive, Syracuse. Pickwick Road is currently closed to traffic. Five fire departments were on duty.

The marina and its contents are expected to suffer millions of dollars in damages.

The Turkey Creek Fire Territory was notified of explosions and a fire at the marina at approximately 2:54 p.m. Syracuse police investigated and found flames on Palm Drive and Lakeside Drive.

Turkey Creek Fire Territory Fire Chief Mickey Scott reported that at that time they received an alarm for a fire with explosions. The caller was about a quarter mile away. Police arrived at the scene and reported that flames could be seen from Palm Drive and Lakeside Drive and the building was completely engulfed.

The fire broke out on the south side of the building, by the canal where the offices are located. At this point, firefighters believe the fire started there. A fire wall between the office and exhibition rooms apparently prevented the fire from spreading to the shop area.

Most of the damage was limited to the showroom and office areas.

The state fire brigade has arrived at the scene of the accident and will begin the investigation. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management was also called.

Firefighters from Benton, Milford, Tippecanoe Township Fire Territory and Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory were called to the scene with manpower and tanker support. WWFT has been contacted to manage any outflow from the fire into nearby canals.
