Neighbor films possible explosion in his house

Albuquerque Fire Department is investigating an explosion and subsequent fire at a home in the city’s northeast early Friday morning.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Emergency crews responded to a possible explosion at a northeast Albuquerque home Sunday morning that a neighbor caught on camera.

At around 3:41 a.m. Sunday, Albuquerque Fire Department responded to a reported fire at a single-family home near Menaul and Chelwood Park Boulevards, near Tramway. When they arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the home.

A neighbor said he captured an explosion on his Ring camera, which is believed to have come from the house.

“We’re members of the Ornate Neighborhood on Facebook and people’s doorbell cameras were recording this,” they said. “And it was just like ‘Woahhh,’ I mean, it was like ‘Okay,’ and we heard all this stuff popping and going, so we came out here wondering if it was blowing stuff up… I wasn’t sure.”

A social media video showed a bang coming from the fire. According to AFR, the sound was ammunition from a gun safe.

Crews brought the fire under control within 45 minutes and even rescued a dog that suffered no injuries. A hazmat team even came to inspect the rest of the house.

One person was examined at the scene, but no one was taken to hospital. However, the fire left the house uninhabitable. The residents are now staying with their relatives.

The fire is still under investigation.
