Netflix’s wild sci-fi horror comedy will delight you

While Hollywood recorded a number of million-dollar losses this year, just as many exciting and impactful films remained under the radar. The latest is Netflix’s new sci-fi thriller. It’s what’s insidewhich just appeared on the streaming service last week.

It’s what’s inside is the feature film debut of writer-director Greg Jardin, who premiered the film at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival in January. It’s about a group of friends who get together for a house party the night before a wedding. Forbes (David W. Thompson) brings a suitcase to the party that contains a device that allows everyone to swap bodies. He suggests that they play a game where they try to figure out who took over which body.

You won’t believe it, but the game doesn’t quite go according to plan:

The cast features a plethora of young, up-and-coming stars, including Brittany O’Grady, James Morosini, Gavin Leatherwood, Nina Bloomgarden, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Reina Hardesty, Devon Terrell, David W. Thompson and Madison Davenport.

Reviews so far have been positive: 81% on Rotten Tomatoes and 6.5/10 on IMDb. diversity Guy Lodge called it “a pretty effective calling card for the genre: brilliantly shot and sharply edited, brazenly played by actors who accept their roles as pretty pawns in an elaborate narrative strategy game.” AV Club adds: “There’s a lot to laugh about here.”

As of Monday, October 7th, the film has moved up to number 7 on Netflix’s Top 10 Movies list. We hope it creates a buzz in the coming days because we need a lot more movies like this and fewer stinkers like this Joker: Folie à Deux.
