New Bedford Regional Airport receives .2 million for improvements – New Bedford Guide

BOSTON — The Healey-Driscoll Administration and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) Aviation Division today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is providing more than $2.3 million in federal funding for municipal airports in the fourth round of funding through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP).

Fitchburg Municipal Airport will receive $1,139,395 for lighting and other infrastructure projects and New Bedford Regional Airport will receive $1,211,490 for airport access road improvements.

“This federal funding will advance projects that are essential to the operational efficiency and safety of our Fitchburg and New Bedford airports,” said Governor Maura Healey“We are grateful to the Biden-Harris administration for creating transportation funding opportunities that will help us improve and modernize Massachusetts infrastructure and spur economic growth in our communities.”

“These grants will help improve our municipal airports, which are an important hub for travelers in the region and for our local economy,” said Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll.“We look forward to pursuing additional federal grant opportunities to further advance our transportation and infrastructure priorities.”

“MassDOT is pleased to have secured federal funding for infrastructure projects at two of our municipal airports. These sites are important transportation and economic development assets,” said Transport Minister and CEO Monica Tibbits-Nutt “We are grateful to our community partners who worked with MassDOT’s Aviation Division to facilitate the successful award of over $2.3 million in total from this fourth round of the Airport Improvement Program.”
