NFL News, Live Updates: Russell Wilson, Justin Fields and Steelers QB drama, will Deshaun Watson be sent to the Browns bench?

The Pittsburgh Steelers fell to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, and while a late stop could have given the Steelers a win and a score of 4-1, the loss was likely due to the Pittsburgh offense failing to get it done against Dallas from first gear – and that means more talk about Justin Fields and Russell Wilson.

Elsewhere in the AFC North, the Cleveland Browns’ woes stem from the poor play of $230 million player Deshaun Watson, while the Cincinnati Bengals may be panicking after their surprising overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Here are the latest top stories Yahoo Sports is tracking as Week 5 of the 2024 NFL season comes to a close:

It was easy to imagine this since the Steelers have struggled on offense most of the season, but that problem was made even more apparent by Sunday night’s football loss to the Cowboys. Pittsburgh won the turnover battle three to one and blocked a Dallas field goal, but came out with a 445-226 lead and went just 3-for-12 on third down. Despite allowing over 300 passing yards and 100 rushing yards in the game, the Pittsburgh defense made enough big plays to keep the Steelers in the game, but Fields and Co. barely got out of first gear. Add to that Russell Wilson telling NBC Sports that he would be fully ready to play in Week 6 with the Raiders, and all eyes will be on head coach Mike Tomlin and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith and what practice officials do this week are divided.

It may seem like a lifetime ago since Joe Flacco is in Indianapolis and the Browns are 1-4, but Cleveland was a playoff team last season. This was due in large part to Flacco helping to lead a late-season resurgence after Deahsun Watson left the lineup after Week 10 with a shoulder injury. Watson is 28th among qualified passers in QB rating and has completed just under 61% of his passes and Cleveland is 27th in pass length. Head coach Kevin Stefanski has said he’s sticking with Watson, but the shadow of Jameis Winston will loom large if Watson and the Cleveland offense continue to struggle.
