Nic & Norman’s, owned by the “Walking Dead” star, opens in Greenville

Fans of the AMC Network series “The Walking Dead” can get a taste of the 11-season apocalypse series, as Nic & Norman’s, a Southern-style restaurant, opened in early August on the west end of downtown Greenville.

Located at 1 Augusta St., the new concept takes over the former location of Smoke on the Water, incorporating remnants of the old floor into the wood-paneled bar and other parts of the current celebrity-backed restaurant.

This concept is a joint project between Greg Nicotero, director of “The Walking Dead,” and Norman Reedus, who played the popular character Daryl Dixon in the popular zombie apocalypse series and spin-off “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.” Over the past five years, they have opened these new franchises under their names in Tennessee, Georgia and two in Kentucky, according to Justin Sullivan, general manager of the Greenville restaurant.

“We have a family-friendly, storytelling atmosphere,” Sullivan said. “We try to provide consistent quality and have a very approachable menu. We use historic-style buildings at all of our locations, and that fits with our theme and complements our service.”

All five locations in the South feature the same menu and restaurant look and feel—from the glass chandelier and tourist T-shirts for sale to a new outdoor patio and a brunch menu soon to be introduced in Greenville—the downtown restaurant is in tune with the others.

What are some interesting menu items at Nic & Norman’s in downtown Greenville?

From appetizers, soups and salads to gourmet burgers, entrees and desserts, Nic and Norman’s offers some of what a traditional diner or restaurant would offer, but with a touch of southern uniqueness.

Their burgers are available in classic form or as a Frito Chili Smashburger, as a Big Fish Burger, which is larger than the actual burger, or even as a Mexican burger with avocado, pico and grilled jalapenos.

Among the main dishes at Nic & Norman’s, there are no high-quality steaks outside of a New York Strip, but a house-made meatloaf, chicken pot pie, and brisket mac and cheese testify to the Southern influence of their menu.

Nic & Norman’s in Greenville will also feature regional and local beers that rotate seasonally, as well as handcrafted cocktails.
