Nikki Glaser pokes fun at Amazon TNF crew, Aaron Rodgers: Viewers aren’t big fans of comedian’s post-game comedy segment

Thursday Night Football is currently in its third season on Amazon Prime Video, and like any relatively new TV project, it’s still working out the details and trying new things with its broadcast. However, the streaming giant appears to have settled on a pre- and post-game crew, with former NFL stars Tony Gonzalez, Andrew Whitworth, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Richard Sherman providing analysis and veteran anchor Charissa Thompson overseeing proceedings.

Before the post-game show ends every Thursday, the TNF crew participates in “The Night Cap.” This is usually one of the last segments and is usually more humorous while also humanizing the crew. For example, in Week 2, clips were shown of the group’s go-kart racing.

At the night cap of week three following the Jets’ victory over the Patriots, the crew welcomed comedian Nikki Glaser to the set and a roast ensued. The audience reaction was decidedly mixed after the roastmaster finished her unconventional performance.

Nikki Glaser makes fun of the Amazon TNF Crew, other NFL characters

NFL fans may remember Glaser’s highly publicized appearance on Netflix’s Tom Brady Roast, but her appearance after the Jets’ game against the Patriots on Thursday didn’t go quite as well.

She started by talking about the Amazon crew’s looks, first comparing herself to 49ers TE George Kittle before saying that Thompson looks like the “final boss of a country club” and that Sherman looks like “Busta Rhymes took Ozempic.” Glaser also said that Whitworth looked like “Men’s Warehouse Shrek” and referred to Fitzpatrick as “Sacks Galifinakis.” In true Glaser style, she added some unsuitable for work comments about Gonzalez being the object of desire for older women.

Glaser then turned her attention to Aaron Rodgers, calling him “Throw Rogan.” She also said she was surprised he was so into silent retreats, since he could never keep his mouth shut about it. Glaser then mocked fans of both teams, making sure the jibes hit everyone, including Bill Belichick and his 24-year-old girlfriend.

Comedy is subjective, so of course not everyone liked or hated Glaser’s comedy style. However, looking at just the X-reactions, it seems the segment — which is repeated four times over the course of the season — definitely wasn’t a huge hit.

Reactions from Nikki Glaser at the TNF Roast

The good

Glaser faced an impossible task. She’s a stand-up comedian and she was offered neither a real audience nor a laugh. All Glaser got were a few scattered laughs from Sherman while Jets fans roared in the background. That wasn’t much to work with. Some on social media gave her the benefit of the doubt.

The bad

Others – apparently the majority – did not give her the benefit of the doubt. While some of her jokes were actually quite funny, the way she delivered them in the absence of an audience did not make things any better.

Amazon may change its mind due to the overwhelmingly poor response, but for now, Glaser is expected to make four more appearances at TNF Night Cap this season.
