“We played well on offense,” Johnson said after the game. “But I’m trying to be more precise with the ball and make more passes. I’m also trying to show more leadership.”

The Shamrocks’ other two points came on the ground, thanks to junior running back Zach Floyd and sophomore running back Jamaurion berry.

Berry tore the Defenders defense to pieces on Friday night, running for 137 yards on 13 attempts (10.5 yards per attempt).

The Louisville native, who is also from Kentucky, scored a 35-yard touchdown to give the Shamrocks an 18-point lead after just over nine minutes of play. He narrowly missed another 20-yard rushing touchdown with just over a minute to go, but was still named Most Valuable Player.

After the win, Trinity defensive back Caleb Ricks exclaimed that they should be ranked higher in KSR’s Top 25 rankings. When told they were ranked No. 2, he exclaimed, “We’re better than Boyle County…”

It’s a shame that we won’t see this duel again this season.

The Shamrocks defense allowed just 239 total yards while the offense managed 389 total yards. After the first game of the season, Trinity’s intention to win two championships in a row is abundantly clear.

With their season-opening win, the Shamrocks remain the No. 2 team in the state when they travel to No. 3 Frederick Douglass next Friday night in the KSR Game of the Week.
