“Nobody Wants This” Kiss Scene: Adam Brody made an important decision

  • The Netflix series “Nobody Wants This” stars Adam Brody and Kristen Bell.
  • Fans can’t stop talking about their characters’ first kiss in episode two.
  • Bell said it was Brody’s idea to hold her face during the scene and that it was her best kiss on screen.

Netflix’s new romantic comedy series Nobody Wants This was released just a few days ago, but the main characters’ swoon-worthy first kiss is already being hailed by fans as one of the greatest on television.

“Nobody Wants This” stars Adam Brody as Noah Roklov, a newly minted rabbi, and Kristen Bell as Joanne, a tormented sex podcast host. When they first meet at a party, their chemistry is undeniable, but they cannot ignore the stark differences in their lifestyles and ideologies.

It’s not until the second episode that Noah and Joanne kiss for the first time, right after they’ve labeled each other friends, having agreed that a relationship between them would never work. Even though they end their date as friends, the curiosity about a goodbye kiss remains, and they give it a try – after Noah confidently puts her sundae on the floor and tells her to put her bag down so she’s fully prepared for the moment.

Then Noah places his left hand on Joanne’s face and they share a passionate kiss.

“I mean, is there a world where this works?” asks Noah after the sparks fly.

“…Yes?” Joanne answers.

The kiss is certainly one of the standout scenes of the ten-episode season.

“I’ve never been kissed like that and I think if I ever did it would change my entire personality,” a fan with the username @Biene__B wrote on X.

Fans not only love Brody and Bell’s chemistry, but also how Brody holds Bell’s face in many of their kissing scenes.

In interviews, Brody and Bell said that the scene was daunting because it was described in the script as “the biggest kiss in the world.” They also attributed the magic of the scene to the anticipation that slowly builds before their characters actually lock lips. Bell also told MTV that Brody made a creative decision that took the kiss to the next level.

“My biggest memory is that I wasn’t prepared for Adam to put his hands on my face like he did during so many kisses,” Bell said, adding that she remembered how some of the crew members gasped snapped. “And I thought, ‘Oh, this will work.'”

In an interview with TVLine, Bell also said that the scene is “probably the best movie kiss I’ve ever done.”

“Nobody Wants This” creator Erin Foster, whose life inspired the series, told Entertainment Weekly that she wanted the characters to “have a really cool, playful first kiss.”

“It all felt pretty natural,” Brody told EW. “There wasn’t a lot of premeditation.”

Brody and Bell have known each other for years and have worked together before. In various interviews, Bell has said that she knew she wanted Brody as Noah as soon as she read the script and put out feelers early on.

“I said it has to be Brody because the character has to be so charming, almost annoyingly charming, to take on the role,” Bell told Extra. “And I thought, ‘You’ve got to look at Adam Brody because he’s going to be the one. I promise.’ And luckily we convinced him.”
