North Korean soldiers ‘most likely’ supporting Russia in war against Ukraine, defense minister | Politics News

According to the British government, it is now “highly likely” that North Korean soldiers are supporting “Russia’s war of aggression” against Ukraine.

Speech in the House of Commons: John Healey went further than previous ministers – including the prime minister – who simply said the move had been reported.

“It is a worrying new development that it is now very likely that hundreds of combat troops will be transferred from….” North Korea to Russia has begun,” he said.

Asked about the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea troop movement last week, Sir Keir Starmer said if the reports were true it showed “a certain level of desperation” in Russia.

Mr. Lammy and Mr. Cho also strongly condemned the “unlawful arms transfers” between Russia and the DPRK.

“Such cooperation between Russia and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea not only violates several United Nations Security Council resolutions, but also prolongs the suffering of the Ukrainian people and threatens global security, including those in the Republic of Korea and the United Kingdom, and shows the desperation of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Russia,” the pair added.

“We are closely monitoring what Russia provides to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in return for the provision of weapons and military personnel, including the possible provision by Russia of materials and technology to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in support of Pyongyang’s military objectives.”

“We are also deeply concerned about the possibility of a transfer of nuclear or ballistic missile technology to the DPRK, which would jeopardize international nonproliferation efforts and jeopardize peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and around the world.”

MPs in the House of Commons pressed Mr Healey to give them more details about the DPRK’s presence in Russia.

The defense secretary said he was “not in a position to provide further details to the House.”

He added that the UK is “watching this extremely closely and monitoring this extremely closely” and noted that over the past 12 months there has been “growing cooperation” between both North Korea and Russia and between Iran and Russia.
