It’s been years since a quarterback selected No. 1 in the draft won in his debut. Caleb Williams was the first to do so since David Carr of the Texans in 2002. Between Williams and Carr, the quarterbacks selected No. 1 had a record of 0-14-1 in their first starts.

The best Bears quarterback to win a season opener since at least 1950. Williams secured that honor on Sunday, becoming the first Bears rookie quarterback to start a season opener since Kyle Orton in 2005. Williams also became the fifth Bears rookie quarterback since at least 1950 to win his first NFL start, joining Jim McMahon (1982), Rex Grossman (2003), Craig Krenzel (2004) and Tyson Bagent (2023).

Cairo Santos’ field goals of 50 yards or more as a member of the Bears are the third most in team history behind Robbie Gould (23) and Kevin Butler (16). Santos made all three of his attempts on Sunday, including a 50-yard kick. On kicks of 50 yards or more, Santos has converted 12 of 14 (85.7%) over the past three seasons, after converting 3 of 12 (25.0%) over the previous five years.

Yards returned by DeAndre Carter. The seventh-year pro returned five punts for 64 yards, including returns of 20 and 16 yards, and had a 67-yard kickoff return that set up a field goal late in the first half.
