ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio field hockey team (5-10, 2-5 Mid-American Conference) lost 2-1 in overtime to Ball State (4-11, 3-4 MAC) on Friday afternoon in Muncie, Indiana.

Ohio took an early lead after a freshman in midfield Marie De Grande (Groot-Bijgaarden, Belgium) scored her second goal of the season 45 seconds into the first period.

The defense stayed tough, limiting Ball State to just nine shots, with the goalie being a graduate student Macy Lotze (Lousiville, Kentucky) with four saves. However, Ball State returned the favor on its opponent, holding Ohio to eight shots each.

The Cardinals tied the game in the fourth quarter on a last-minute goal from Emma van Hal and ultimately took the win on an overtime goal from Jenna Wyckoff.

Ohio will be back in action on Sunday, October 27th to face Davidson. First contact is scheduled for noon at Pruitt Field. There will also be the dedication game “Morgan’s Message”.
