Orleans man charged with attempted premeditated murder

ORLEANS, Nebraska (KSNB) – An Orleans man faces charges of attempted premeditated murder, use of a firearm to commit a felony and misdemeanor charges following an alleged shooting at a mobile home park, according to a Harlan County District Court affidavit.

The Harlan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call from an Orleans mobile home park near Highway 136 Friday morning after the caller reported waking up to gunshots.

According to the affidavit, the victim said she saw 47-year-old Christopher Haunton standing in the doorway of her RV pointing a firearm in her direction. The victim said she saw bullet holes in both the bed and the RV and picked up shell casings.

The day before the incident, the affidavit states, the victim and two other people were with Haunton at his Orleans home. The affidavit also states that Haunton began talking about a government conspiracy and that “dark times were coming.” It says that after that conversation, one person asked Haunton if she believed Haunton was a pedophile.

Haunton then hit the person who asked the question and they began to wrestle, the affidavit states. After the fight ended, Haunton left the scene, according to the victim.

Haunton is being held on $500,000 bail and his next court date is scheduled for August 27.
