Plugable introduces latest dual-display docking station for MacBooks

Docking and connectivity specialist Plugable has announced the launch of a redesigned docking station UD-6950PDH. As a result of customer feedback and technological developments, this new version now features a sleek space gray aluminum casing that harmonizes with most Apple products.

Unlike many docks on the market, the UD-6950PDH provides two additional displays on any Mac, regardless of whether it uses a Max, Pro or base Apple M1, M2, M3 or M4 processor. The user only needs to install a single DisplayLink driver and the annoying limitation of one display is a thing of the past.

The updated version of the docking station retains its core features, including support for two 4K monitors with a 60Hz refresh rate via DisplayPort or HDMI. There’s also fast 100W charging, while additional features now include a front-facing USB-C port for 5Gbps data transfer and device charging, a combo 3.5mm audio jack, and a power button to turn off the docking station when not in use.

The UD-6950PDH supports dual 4K displays at 60Hz using DisplayLink technology, which ensures compatibility with Mac devices including M1, M2 and M3, as well as the upcoming M4 Apple Silicon MacBooks. The ability to connect two extended 4K monitors simultaneously – even to Macs that would otherwise only support one. This is an ideal feature for increasing productivity or multitasking.

The new UD-6950PDH docking station now features a high-quality aluminum alloy body that fits well with Apple devices, whether MacBook or Mac mini. Improved connectivity includes front-facing USB-C and USB-A ports with 5Gbps data transfer and charging. There are also three USB 3.0 data ports for legacy peripherals. Plugable claims that this combination of ports covers old and new peripherals

The audio capabilities of the UD-6950PDH have been significantly improved by incorporating a 4-position TRRS connector. This replaces the separate speaker and microphone inputs of the original version, streamlining audio connections and providing a more user-friendly experience when using headsets.

The UD-6950PDH now features a power button on the front panel that makes it quick and easy to turn on the docking station. In addition, the power button allows you to save power when the docking station is not in use, helping to reduce energy consumption and extend the life of the device.

The UD-6950PDH has a total of 14 ports. These include two HDMI and two DisplayPort outputs, allowing for flexible screen selection. The docking station also features a fast-charging USB-C port, a fast-charging USB port, as well as USB 3.0 ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port, Micro SD and an SD card reader.
