Presidents Cup 2024: Day 1 of the four-ball games at Royal Montreal

International captain Mike Weir and US captain Jim Furyk announced the pairings for the four-ball matches on the first day of the Presidents Cup on Wednesday.

Here’s a quick look at who’s playing who on Thursday at Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Canada (all times ET). Coverage on the Golf Channel starts at 11:30 a.m. ET

  • 11:35 am: Jason Day/Byeong Hun An (INT) vs. Xander Schauffele/Tony Finau (USA)

  • 11:53 am: Adam Scott/Min Woo Lee (INT) vs. Collin Morikawa/Sahith Theegala (USA)

  • 12:11 pm: Sungjae Im/Tom Kim (INT) vs. Scottie Scheffler/Russell Henley (USA)

  • 12:29 pm: Taylor Pendrith/Christiaan Bezuidenhout (INT) vs. Wyndham Clark/Keegan Bradley (USA)

  • 12:47 pm: Hideki Matsuyama/Corey Conners (INT) versus Patrick Cantlay/Sam Burns (USA)

Notably, neither team on either side has ever played together in the Presidents Cup or (in the case of the Americans) the Ryder Cup.

Two players on each side will sit on the bench: Max Homa and Brian Harman for the USA; Mackenzie Hughes and Si Woo Kim for the internationals.

Unlike the Ryder Cup, where the line-up is determined by a blind draw, the Presidents Cup uses a “snake” format.

As captain of the defending champion, Furyk waived the decision and let Weir announce his pairing for Match 1 first. Weir chose the Australian Day and the South Korean An and Furyk countered with Schauffele and Finau.

Furyk then went first into Match 2, followed by Weir going first into Match 3, and so on.

After Thursday’s play, teams will compete in five foursomes (alternating strokes) on Friday and four foursomes and four foursomes in a doubles session on Saturday. There will be 12 singles matches on Sunday. The first team to reach 15 1/2 points wins the competition. In the event of a 15-15 tie, the teams will share the trophy.
