It’s safe to say that Brock Purdy is not the type of person who enjoys the spotlight.

But his success as the 49ers’ quarterback over the past two NFL seasons has brought him a lot of attention, whether he likes it or not.

In a recent interview with KPIX 5’s Vern Glenn, Purdy’s humble nature was evident when asked when he first realized the extent of his fame.

“There were little things, but I think I just wanted to go shopping with my wife,” Purdy replied. “And then people see me, and we’re walking through the aisles, and there are people coming up to me, and I’m like, ‘Oh man.'”

It’s a completely routine occurrence that shouldn’t surprise any 49ers fan given Purdy’s quiet personality off the field.

“We were just going to get some groceries, and then there were loads of people coming into the supermarket asking us for autographs and stuff,” Purdy continued. “And I wanted to apologize to my wife. I just said, ‘I’m sorry,’ I wanted to take off my hat and put on my hoodie or something – it just happened.”

Even though these situations may not be particularly pleasant for Purdy, he appreciates the fans’ admiration.

“It’s not bad. It’s something I’m grateful for — loving people and meeting them where they are in the midst of the excitement, so it’s all good,” Purdy explained. “My wife and I just like that simple lifestyle. We don’t try to do too much.”

And if that isn’t Brock Purdy in a nutshell, what is? And 49ers fans won’t complain, given his exceptional talent on the field.
