The New Orleans Saints’ firing of Dennis Allen and promotion of Darren Rizzi to interim head coach are ongoing as the Saints make media appearances early Monday afternoon. However, we now have the opportunity to hear from Rizzi on a variety of topics, and he certainly showed his passion when discussing the future of the team.

One of the first points he emphasized was after he was asked what his message was to fans, especially those who may have given up on the season. Rizzi replied, “Listen, they should be mad. I’m mad, the fans should be mad, the people of New Orleans, the people of Louisiana, nobody should be happy, and I think this city deserves it You know what it looks like to win football and you know, that it is our job to bring that back. I can’t promise much, I can promise passion, and I can tell you that. The team will go out every Sunday and that will be clear, that we will have a team full of passion and full of fighters, I can promise you that. Now the football has to get better, the implementation has to get better, of course, but we won’t miss these two things, I can promise you that.

He also had a few other quotes about the team and its further development since the 2:7 start. Explaining that he wanted to change the way the team works, he went on to say, “We’ve been doing things the same way here for a long, long time.”

He would also say: “We will look at everything. Everyone and everything is evaluated and reevaluated. At the moment the product is not acceptable.”

Regarding the team’s injuries, Rizzi mentioned that he didn’t want to hear about the injuries and that “we need to improve our performance.” He also said that he spoke with Chris Olave on Monday and that he was still being evaluated at this time .

One of the final points of note concerned the quarterback position and where it stands, with Rizzi saying, “Derek Carr will be the quarterback on Sunday. … I will not go down that path.”

Ultimately, at an initial press conference, Rizzi did a great job of expressing his feelings for the team and the city, but also got down to business and discussed what he plans to do with the team’s current way of working.
