Rain fell in parts of the capital on Thursday, with the maximum temperature reaching 27.9 degrees Celsius, six degrees below normal, according to the weather service.

On Wednesday a maximum temperature of 32.6 degrees Celsius was measured.

The city is under orange alert, which means you need to prepare yourself as extremely bad weather is forecast.

The warning warns of possible disruptions in the transport sector, including rail, road and air; according to the weather service, power outages are also to be expected.

According to the weather service, relative humidity fluctuated between 100 and 87 percent throughout the day.

The city was hit by heavy rains on Wednesday night, with the main weather station at Safdarjung recording 16.3 mm of rainfall by 8:30 am.

According to the data, other stations recorded 16 mm at Lodhi Road, 15 mm in Ayanagar and 13 mm in Pitampura and SPS Mayur Vihar.

According to the India Meteorological Department, Delhi’s main weather station at Safdarjung recorded 933.6 mm of rainfall this season, compared to the normal of 586.9 mm, an increase of 57 percent over the usual figure.

Meanwhile, according to the IMD, there were ten rainy days in September, defined as days with 2.5 mm or more of rainfall.

Flooding and traffic congestion occurred in several areas. Police released photos and videos to inform the public about the disruptions and suggest alternative routes.

“Traffic was affected on Old Pankha Road on the carriageway from T Point Uttam Nagar East metro station towards Pankha Road due to a large pothole and on GTK Road on both the carriageways from Mukarba Chowk towards Azadpur Chowk and vice versa due to flooding near GTK Depot,” the Delhi Traffic Police wrote in a post on X.

Traffic on MB Road in the Khanpur T Point carriageway towards Mehrauli and Rohtak Road was also affected.

The weather service has predicted mostly cloudy skies with moderate rain for Friday.

Maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 31 degrees Celsius and 21 degrees Celsius respectively.
