Rain is likely—and thunderstorms possible—in the Boise area. Here’s when and what to know

There is a chance of rain in the Boise area from Sunday evening through noon Tuesday, with potential rainfall amounts between 0.5 and 1 inch, said Jackson Macfarlane, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Boise.

By Monday evening, the chance of rain in Idaho will rise to 60 to 80 percent and will remain that way through Tuesday when the storm moves out around noon. Another storm could move through later in the week, but it is uncertain whether it will bring rain.

Rain is expected to cover most of the area forecast by the weather service from southeast Oregon through McCall to Twin Falls. And there is a chance of thunderstorms and lightning on Sunday and Monday evenings.

“It’s pretty widespread,” Macfarlane said. “The system we had last week really helped calm those fires down. … With several days of rain forecast, we’ve really been able to contain some of those fires.”

However, there is uncertainty as to whether the rain will be continuous or sporadic, so some areas may see a lot of rainfall, others less.

Temperatures will cool next week, but it’s not quite fall sweater weather yet. Highs next week will remain “comfortable,” Macfarlane said, at 21 to 15 degrees.

“I probably wouldn’t expect a low of around 40 until October,” Macfarlane said.
