Ravens’ Derrick Henry scores the 1st touchdown of the 2024 NFL season against the Chiefs

Ravens’ Derrick Henry scores the 1st touchdown of the 2024 NFL season against the Chiefs

The first touchdown of the 2024 NFL season goes to Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry.

Henry, in his first game with the Ravens on Thursday, finished Baltimore’s opening 70-yard drive with a five-yard rush to the goal line and stormed into the end zone against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Henry signed a two-year deal with the Ravens in March. A former league MVP and two-time NFL rushing leader, Henry joined two-time MVP Lamar Jackson in a Ravens backfield that led the league in rushing in 2023.

Henry’s touchdown on the first drive could be a foretaste of one of the most dynamic rushing offenses in the NFL.

At 30 years old, Henry already has a lot of experience. Since entering the league in 2016, Henry has played the fifth-most snaps among running backs – and will most likely surpass 4,000 snaps in the regular season on Thursday night. Among 64 running backs with at least 1,500 snaps in that time period.

However, Henry is also in his first year with a shotgun offense, which could take some getting used to. Baltimore running backs coach Willie Taggart said he was a little worried that Henry would no longer have a shotgun offense, but then he saw him at practice.

The change in the Ravens’ offensive line (three regular players had to be replaced) could also affect Henry’s running room, but he still rushed for more than 1,000 yards last season behind the Titans’ weak line.
