In honor of National Filet Mignon Day, SouthCoast Today invited readers to take an online poll and tell us their favorite New Bedford-area restaurant to order this delicious cut of beef.

And the winner goes to Fay’s Restaurant and Catering at 613 Dartmouth St. South in Dartmouth.

Fay’s has been a staple in the community for over a decade. With its incredible Italian menu, weekly specials, and events like wine pairing nights and music on the patio, it’s no surprise that it’s become a favorite hangout for locals and a popular destination for visitors.

“On our menu we have a Filet Oscar and as a specialty we also offer a simple grilled filet. A lot of people just love a nice grilled filet mignon. It’s so tender and has no fat. We season it, grill it and it’s fantastic,” said Matt Bettencourt, general manager at Fay’s.

What to expect when visiting Fay

The story of Fay’s Restaurant is rooted in family and tradition. Bettencourt and his partners Elizabeth and Evelyn wanted to take the next step in their culinary careers and open a larger restaurant in their beloved town of Dartmouth. They named it Fay’s in memory of their beloved mother and grandmother, who founded Fay’s Knotty Pine, a restaurant that closed in 2000 when the building was sold to a major pharmacy chain.

The culinary tradition passed down in the family continues to flourish at Fay’s Restaurant and they pride themselves on staying true to the ancient traditions of hospitality and genuine relationships with friends and family. These values were instilled in the family during their time in Fabriza, Italy, where they learned the meaning of food and hospitality.

“We are truly grateful to our customers for choosing us as the best filet mignon in the area. It is truly an honor,” said Bettencourt. “We continue to use the same techniques and ingredients we learned from our family in Italy. It’s all about providing our customers with an authentic and delicious dining experience.”

In addition to its famous Filet Mignon, Fay’s offers a varied menu with many different Italian dishes as well as weekly specials such as Pizza Tuesdays, Wine and Dine Wednesdays, Buy Three Pizzas, Get One Free nights and Appy Hours.
