Super Bowl champion Rob Gronkowski shockingly revealed Wednesday that he knew one of the New York Yankees fans who interfered with Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts’ catch in Game 4 of the World Series.

Gronkowski appeared on “Up & Adams” and spoke with Kay Adams about the piece. The two fans were ejected from the game after the game. He pointed to the man ESPN identified as Austin Capobianco.

“That guy that grabbed Mookie Betts’ glove was my friend in college,” Gronkowski said. “He was a member of the hockey team – the Arizona Wildcats club team. The entire hockey team was an absolute lunatic. They were indescribable (sic), how wild these boys…animals.”

“For him to do that represents him very well. I mean, he’s all for his teams. He’s all for the Yankees. I remember him talking about the Yankees all the time, how much he loves them. And that describes him perfectly.” He simply does everything to help his team.

“I just want to say congratulations on shining when your moment came.”

“I’m not saying it’s OK. … It’s definitely unacceptable in the world of sports, but when you’re that big of a fan, fans do that whenever they get the chance,” he said.

Capobianco told ESPN he knew he would be ejected from the game, but he still decided to ignore the rules and grab Betts.

“We always joke about the ball in our area,” he said. “We won’t bother attacking. If it’s in our area, we’ll go up ‘D’.”

“Someone defends, someone hits the ball. We talk about it. We are ready for this.”
