Robbery in Milwaukee Riverwest: Restaurant manager helps victims

Two people were robbed at gunpoint outside a popular restaurant in the Riverwest neighborhood.

The surveillance cameras of Café Corazón recorded the crime, which occurred on August 6 at 10:15 p.m. All the scary moments were captured on video from the restaurant’s terrace.

A surveillance camera from the restaurant’s terrace shows a couple walking along Bremen-Allee. Two people wearing ski masks run after them while a car stops next to them. A group of men jump out of the car and attack the victims, one of whom is 22 and the other 23 years old.

Milwaukee police said the suspects demanded money at gunpoint, beat one person and violently robbed the other, then fled the scene in the vehicle.

Eris Campbell is the manager of Café Corazón. He left the café after closing time.

“We just want to be safe here,” Campbell said. “We were coming out when we saw a guy walking toward us saying, ‘Did you see what happened? Did you see what just happened? I just got mugged! I just got mugged.'”

The crime occurred as MPD continued to investigate a gang of robbers that had targeted Riverwest and the Upper East Side in recent weeks.

“It was a pretty confusing situation,” Campbell said. “I could see the blood on his face and it was already swollen at that point.”

Campbells said it was important to raise awareness and lift surveillance.

“It alerts the community to what they need to pay attention to,” Campbell said. “This is not the community or neighborhood that wants to have any problems.”

Police said no arrests have been made so far and investigations are ongoing.
