Ron Howard JD Vance: Ron Howard made a film about JD Vance’s Hillbilly Elegy, but won’t vote for him or Trump | World News

Ron Howard, who directed the Netflix film about JD Vance’s Hillbilly Elegy said he was interested in Vance’s story of survival, but now he’s no longer interested in voting for Trump-Vance, he’s changed his mind about Vance. The movie was based on the best-selling book about JD Vance’s upbringing and early life, and Howard’s dealings with Vance mostly revolved around that, with little to no politics. Now he thinks Vance is a different person, and he’s very surprised and disappointed by what he’s reading about Vance. “I just have to say, I’m very surprised and disappointed by the rhetoric that I’m reading and hearing. People change, and I suppose that’s the case. Well, it’s on the record,” Howard, 70, said.
“When we talked at the time I knew him, he was not politically active or claimed to be particularly interested. So that was then. I think the most important thing is to recognize what’s going on today and vote.”
“It’s not really about a film that was made five or six years ago. It is, but we have to respond to what we see, hear, feel now, and choose responsibly, whatever that means. We have to participate. That’s my response.”
“It is out of the question for me to re-elect Donald Trump as president, whoever the vice president was.”
The Oscar-winning director announced his decision to run for president at the Toronto International Film Festival.
When Howard said he knew JD was a conservative
JD Vance himself was a critic of Donald Trump before and now that he is Trump’s running mate, his past is coming back to haunt him – from his past political views to his past statements. When JD became Ohio’s senator in 2022, Howard said he was surprised, but he knew JD was a conservative. But Howard said JD also comes across as very center-right, a more moderate thinker.
