Geno Smith threw for 289 yards and a 71-yard touchdown to DK Metcalf, Zach Charbonnet ran for two TDs and the Seattle Seahawks beat Miami 24-3 on Sunday, where attention turned to another injury to a Dolphins quarterback.

A week after Tua Tagovailoa was sidelined with his third concussion in two years, the Dolphins watched Skylar Thompson suffer a pectoral injury in the second half, leaving Tim Boyle to try to overcome a 17-3 deficit.

Boyle failed to make a comeback, and the Dolphins (1-2) were stuck in a situation of uncertainty regarding their quarterback situation.

Thompson was injured in the third quarterwas left lying down after being shoved by Dre’Mont Jones after a pass to De’Von Achane. But Thompson likely suffered the injury on the previous drive when he was sacked by Tyrel Dodson and ran off the field with his waist bent.

Thompson completed 13 of 19 passes for 107 yards before leaving the game and was sacked five times.

Tagovailoa traveled to Seattle just over a week after suffering a concussion against Buffalo on Sept. 12. The Dolphins were confident Thompson could step in and keep their potent offense running.

But all Miami managed was Jason Sanders’ 23-yard field goal in the first quarter. In total, Miami had just 205 yards.

Miami had a chance to get within a point early in the fourth quarter after Smith intercepted a pass for the second time in the game – a pass that was deflected by Calais Campbell and caught out of the air by Zach Sieler. Miami got to the Seattle 3, but failed on four attempts and lost the ball on one down.

Smith completed 26 of 34 passes, including the long touchdown throw to Metcalf. Charbonnet managed 91 yards on 18 carries and his 10-yard touchdown run with 4:55 left finally put the Dolphins out of action. Seattle improved its record to 3-0 for the first time since 2020.

Seattle’s offense started well, with Smith throwing for 133 yards in the first quarter. The big hit came on the last play of the first quarter, when Metcalf broke free with a double move and Smith found him for his seventh touchdown catch of 50 yards or more.

But after that first quarter, it was a pretty miserable afternoon for the Seahawks on that side of the ball, as their offense was often thwarted by penalties. The two teams each had 11 accepted penalties, with several more rejected or canceled.

In addition to Thompson, the Dolphins also lost left tackle Terron Armstead (eye) and cornerback Kendall Fuller (concussion) to injuries in the first half.

Seattle lost significant depth on the defensive line, as rookies Byron Murphy II (hamstring) and Leonard Williams (ribs) were out of the first half with injuries. Both were out by halftime.

Dolphins host Tennessee next week on Monday Night Football.
