“It’s so frustrating. All the community members are frustrated because a child is home alone without his mother and we can feel the pain,” said former colleague Mala Sharma.

Kafle has a little daughter who is almost one year old.

“Even if she was desperate, even if she was going through something, she wouldn’t have left her daughter,” her friend Nadia Navarro told 7News. “She was very self-sacrificing in that regard, no matter what happened.”

Sharma said she and Kafle worked together before Kafle moved to UVA Health Prince William Medical Center, where she worked as a nurse.

“We are all coming together. It is not just the Nepali community, but all people are coming together,” Sharma said.

There has been a strong outpouring of community support over the past nearly three weeks as people from across Manassas Park and beyond have joined forces to search for Kafle while Manassas Park Police continue their investigation.

“We are trying to search. We are gathering people. We are doing our best to help Mamta and Mamta’s family,” Sharma said.

Her relatives continue to call on the police to release updated information on Mamta’s case as soon as possible.

“So we just want an answer, what they have investigated so far and what they know about it, so we can help them if we can,” Sharma said.

Here is the schedule according to the police:

  • July 27: Mamta was last seen at UVA Health Prince William Medical Center.
  • July 28: Mamta spoke to a friend.
  • July 31: Naresh saw Mamta for the last time.
  • August 2: Police responded to a welfare check at Mamta’s apartment and spoke with her husband, who did not want to report her missing at the time.
  • August 5: Nares officially reported Mamta missing to the police.
  • August 5-8: Detectives conducted a “comprehensive” investigation into the disappearance.

Now Kafle’s inner circle and beyond are ready to see her come home.

Lianna Golden from 7News: How can you keep hope that she will turn up alive?

Sharma: It’s very hard and maybe not in the back of our minds, but just keep thinking positive that she will come back
