Selena Gomez makes fun of “childless cat ladies” Steve Martin and Martin Short

Father-son duo Eugene Levy and Dan Levy took the stage to host the Emmy Awards on Sunday night, wearing matching tuxedos, black glasses and bold eyebrows, and made it clear to viewers that they are not stand-up comedians – apparently to temper expectations.

“I wouldn’t even call us hosts,” said Dan Levy. “More like actors acting as hosts, which is a big risk for us. But if things go well tonight, my name will be pronounced Lev-y, not Lee-vy.”

“And if something goes wrong, my name will be pronounced ‘Martin Short,'” added Eugene Levy.

This prediction proved to be a little too accurate when the first presenters of the evening took the stage. Only murders in the building Stars like Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez and quickly introduced the show to the actual hosts with some harder interludes, which were better received by the celebrity audience

“Steve, I just want to say what an honor it is to work with someone who looks like he fell down and can’t get up,” Short joked.

But Gomez had the best line ready when she joked: “And let me tell you, what an honor it is to work with two guys who The far from being childless cat ladies.”

What the Schitt’s Creek Stars, their best joke came at the expense of the most nominated “comedy series” of the year, The bear.

“I know some of you might expect us to make a joke about whether The bear is really a comedy,” said Eugene Levy. “But in the true spirit of The bearwe will not joke.”

This sentence, at least, made the show’s Emmy-nominated star, Ayo Edebiri, laugh out loud.
