Sesame Place San Diego offers American Sign Language on Saturdays

CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA — Sesame Place San Diego is taking another step to ensure all families can experience the magic of Sesame Street. Starting Saturday, the Chula Vista theme park will host American Sign Language Saturdays.

The new program includes a certified ASL interpreter stationed at the park’s Storytime with Friends and Sesame Street theater performances the third Saturday of every month. The program aims to better support deaf and hard of hearing community members who visit the park. Sesame Place already offers free ASL interpreters every day upon advance request and provides scripts for select presentations.

The introduction of ASL Saturdays continues the park’s commitment to inclusivity and expands accessibility offerings, said Genaro Castro, vice president of Sesame Place San Diego.

He pointed out that Sesame Place was the first theme park in San Diego to open as a certified autism center. As a certified autism center, Sesame Place offers training for staff and on-site accommodations such as quiet rooms to ensure every visitor, including those with sensory sensitivities, can enjoy the park.

“Our goal is to create an environment where all families can experience the magic of Sesame Street and ensure that every visit is inclusive and memorable,” Castro told Patch.

Sesame Place San Diego is the only theme park on the West Coast based entirely on the award-winning children’s show. The 17-acre theme park features 18 Sesame Street-themed rides and water attractions, including a family-friendly roller coaster and a 500,000-gallon wave pool that is one of the largest in Southern California.

Sesame Place San Diego is located at 2052 Entertainment Circle in Chula Vista.
