Short Stop Food Stores buys Bowie’s Travel Center in Menard, Texas

Short Stop Food Stores has completed the acquisition of the former Bowie’s Travel Center and convenience store in Menard, Texas, commercial real estate brokerage firm Marcus & Millichap announced.

The transaction was handled by Houston-based Luna-Thakor Group, an affiliate of Calabasas, Calif.-based Marcus & Millichap, which represented both the seller and the buyer.

Charlie and Linda Reichenau, co-owners of Short Stop Food Stores in Mason, Texas, with their son Clint Reichenau, have been in the convenience store business for 49 years and operate a chain of 11 other Short Stop stores in Eden, Ballinger, Santa Anna, Mason, Llano, London, Junction, Rocksprings and Boerne, Texas, according to a report by The Menard News.

Bowie’s, 1692 North US 83, is a 5,000-square-foot truck stop on a 5-acre site and features 16 Valero-branded gas stations.

Since 2019, Bowie’s Truck Stop has been a fixture in Menard, Texas, offering a range of services to both locals and travelers and is known for themed novelties.

According to the Marcus & Millichap website, a Bowie’s Truck Stop in Tuscola, Texas is also for sale.
