Shreveport Regional Airport expands capacity of its gates and parking lots

SHREVEPORT, Louisiana (KSLA) – The Shreveport Regional Airport is making many important improvements, including the opening of new restaurants and plans to expand parking.

Three new restaurants recently opened at the airport: Taco Mania, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and Notini’s. For the past 10 to 15 years, the airport has only had general dining options, but now passengers can enjoy local restaurants. Notini’s has been a popular Italian restaurant in Bossier City for over 40 years. The Bossier City location remains open.

The airport is working with the TSA to implement a visitor pass program that will allow people who are not flying to eat at the restaurants. The airport hopes to have this program up and running by the end of the year.

The airport also receives a grant for maintenance on the cargo ramps. The airport is the second busiest in the state in terms of the amount of cargo it handles, according to airport officials.

One of the things airport officials are most excited about, however, is a parking lot expansion. It will be the largest construction project in the parking lot in a quarter century. The project will add nearly 300 parking spaces to the long-term parking lot. The project is scheduled to begin in late August and be completed in May 2025.

Airport officials say summer is their busiest time; in June and July, the airport had more passengers than in 2019 (before the pandemic).

The airport is also expanding the capacity of some of its gates, which opened in 1971. Officials say they are too small for the size of the planes that land at the airport. More seats and more floor space will be created at the gates that people use every day.
