Six dogs were abandoned at the Morrisville Borough Dog Park on Saturday and left with a note saying they were rescued from an overcrowded shelter.

According to a report by CBS News Philadelphia, the dogs appeared healthy and friendly.

According to county police, the note accompanying the dogs said they were taken from an “old lady who has too many dogs.”

The person who brought the animals to the park wanted to keep them, but was unable to do so because pets were not allowed in an apartment. Since the park is a safe place, the message expressed hope for the dogs’ future: “This is the safest place I can think of to put them. I hope they find a home.”

Local resident Arta Szathmary, who was visiting the park with her dog Louie, discovered the unattended animals, CBS News Philadelphia reported.

“It’s a shame that someone would leave animals behind for all of us who come to the dog park. These are parts of our family and we can’t leave them anywhere,” Szathmary told the television station.

The incident at the park resulted in three of the dogs being adopted on the spot by other park visitors and the remaining three being taken to the Bucks County SPCA for care and adoption.

The six abandoned dogs were slightly malnourished but otherwise in good condition, District Police Officer Amanda DeLuca told the Bucks County Courier Times.

In light of the incident, Morrisville County Police reminded residents that animal shelters can assist people who are unable to care for their pets.

“Please note that animal shelters are available for individuals who can no longer care for their pets,” the district police said.
