Spike Lee and Billy Crystal are honored as superfans in the Basketball Hall of Fame

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – Basketball’s brightest minds were in Springfield on Sunday for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Along with these 13 Enshrines came their biggest fans to support them, including Billy Crystal and Spike Lee.

You may be a fan, but Billy and Spike are Basketball Hall of Fame certified. The actor and filmmaker are two of four superfans honored by the Hall for their over-the-top enthusiasm for their beloved teams.

“It’s just a recognition of our dedication to not just the game, but the sport, for both of us, but especially for Spike, who has done commercials honoring the game, and I’m spreading the message as much as I can in front of the camera .”

This honor is hallmark to say the least.

“You know, it’s something I first shared with my kids in the sports arena when they were little, and their kids and I take them and teach me, like my dad did with me, the intricacies of the game at,” Crystal shared.

The games taught them more than just moves and strategies, they gave them life lessons.

“We all need to be together to realize who we are in our country and what the country needs and what we all deserve, people of all kinds, and you learn that through team sports,” Crystal said.

“Democracy, right,” Lee added.

However, we couldn’t let them go without a fun rivalry since Spike plays for the Knicks and Billy plays for the Clippers.

So we asked: Who will win this year, East versus West?

“This is the year. We got the pieces. “The team is hungry, we have a team,” Spike predicted.

“I couldn’t disagree more with Spike,” Billy replied. “We have Zubac, James Harden. We’re going to be better than people expect.”
