Steelers News: Pittsburgh to make final decision on Russell Wilson on Sunday

The Steelers’ quarterback situation is still uncertain ahead of game day. According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, starting quarterback Russell Wilson has told the team he will be able to play in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons. However, team doctors remain cautious and Pittsburgh will wait until Sunday to make a decision.

Wilson missed much of training camp with a calf strain, and his injury re-aggravated before the Week 1 game. Mike Tomlin said Thursday that the injury has not affected the Steelers’ game plan, but recent reports indicate Justin Fields will start against Atlanta.

If Wilson isn’t 100% but can still start, the Steelers still have a decision to make. The team’s offensive line has struggled this preseason, meaning it’s questionable at best whether a veteran quarterback with a lower-body injury can start.

If Russell Wilson does not play on Sunday, Justin Fields will start for the Black and Gold in Atlanta.
