In Texas‘ 56-7 victory over UTSA on Saturday, Longhorns Starting Quarterback Quinn Ewers left the game in the second quarter due to injury. Backup QB and former five-star prospect Arch Manning replaced Ewers.

Manning did not miss his chance and put on a show for the Texas fans. After the game, head coach Steve Sarkisian praised Manning for his performance.

“As a substitute, you never know when you will come into play,” said Sarkissian. “The fact that (Manning) comes in on his first play and scores DeAndre Moore for the touchdown. On his third play – we have a slightly different style of offense when he’s there – the little zone read to pull it and the explosive play.

“I love the mailing to Ryan Wingo for the long touchdown. The big corner route to Ryan. He threw a nice kind of slot fade to Johntay Cook for a touchdown. He did some nice things for us and extended some drives on third downs. So that was a great experience for him.”

Before taking the field on Saturday, Manning had only completed 11 passes for 125 yards in his career. On Saturday, Manning significantly improved his career total by completing 9 of 12 passes for 223 yards and four touchdowns.

Will there be more opportunities for Arch Manning?

Additionally, Manning showed what he can do, scoring a 67-yard touchdown on his second offensive series. Manning may have more opportunities to lead the Longhorns. After the game, Sarkisian gave an update on Ewers’ condition.

“It’s an oblique strain, an abdominal strain,” Sarkisian said. “It remains to be seen how serious it is and how long it lasts. We don’t think it’s anything structural or a fracture or anything like that. It was a weird game. But it gave Arch an opportunity to get some valuable playing time and experience.”

This season is the third in a row that Ewers has suffered an injury. While Texas certainly doesn’t want to lose Ewers at center, expectations for Manning have never been higher. On Sunday, Paul Finebaum claimed Manning will win the Heisman Trophy before his college career is over.

“Book it,” Finebaum said on SportsCenter. “Arch Manning is going to win the Heisman. I’m all in. And by the way, his grandfather (Archie Manning) and Peyton (Manning) probably should have won it, and Arch is going to do it. Can you believe that? He’s just replacing a Heisman favor. I don’t know if he’s going to win it this year, but Arch Manning is definitely going to win the Heisman in Texas.”
