The Detroit Tigers can take a short break from their pitching chaos and return to their traditional approach for the biggest game of the season on the mound.

Tarik Skubal will start Game 5 of the winner-take-all ALDS series between the Tigers and Cleveland Guardians on Saturday. Skubal, the only traditional starter the Tigers use regularly, will look to maintain his scoreless streak for the third straight postseason game.

Skubal, the odds-on favorite to win the AL Cy Young Award after securing the AL Pitching Triple Crown, has continued his dominance in his first two postseason starts. He threw 13 scoreless innings with seven hits allowed, one walk and 14 strikeouts in his two starts, leading the Tigers to win both.

GAME 4 ON THURSDAY: The Detroit Tigers lose 5-4 to the Guardians in ALDS Game 4, forcing Game 5 in Cleveland

This is the first winner-take-all game the Tigers have played in the postseason since the 2013 ALDS, where they defeated the Oakland Athletics in Game 5. Justin Verlander was Detroit’s starter for this game 11 years ago, pitching eight scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts.

The Guardians have not yet named a starter, but former Tigers starter Matthew Boyd pitched for Cleveland in Game 2 and will line up the rest of his time with a possible start. In Game 2, Boyd held the Tigers to zero runs with four hits in 4⅔ innings in his first career postseason start.
