Téa Leoni is on Season 5 of Only Murders In The Building

Surprise! Tea Leoni (Madam Secretary) has joined the cast of Hulu Just murders in the building For Season 5, sources close to production confirm Deadline.

Leoni appears in the final minutes of the Season 4 finale as Sofia Caccimelio, wife of Nicky “The Neck” Caccimelio, a missing person with ties to the Caputo crime family who was previously mentioned in Episode 9 of this season.

“I think she’s the big showstopper at the end of the finale and a small, intriguing push forward,” co-creator John Hoffman tells Deadline. “It’s an extension of the little news story in Episode 9 that Mabel notices in the hospital. (Sofia) is the wife of the dry cleaning king of Brooklyn, and we may also find out about a few dry cleaning establishments in Manhattan.”

He continued: “But beyond that, it potentially opens up a world that we haven’t talked about too much in New York, so it holds a lot of intrigue.”

Hoffman shared that he and Leoni have been texting for weeks. He said, “She’s the best!” We had the best conversations about where she could go.” When Hoffman spoke to Deadline last week, he said that Leoni could potentially join the cast of season five, but that this has not yet been confirmed.

When asked if the Caccimelios are connected to anything from previous seasons, Hoffman revealed: “I think there are allusions to what Oliver (Martin Short) said when he was dealing with the financing of his shows; So, yes, there could be some overlap in that regard. There may be some danger in helping. There could be some moves in Season 5 that will change the whole equation.”

As for the themes they played with in the writers’ room, he added: “We were talking earlier today about what New York is right now. So there is a classic version of it, and then what does it look like today? That fascinates me.”

Classic New York and today’s Big Apple as a theme for Season 5 makes sense after the death of Lester the Doorman (Teddy Coluca), who undoubtedly has decades of insight into the city and the building.
