Tems recalls pregnancy rumors with Future: “Why not Drake?”

On Tuesday (September 10), Tems stopped by The Breakfast Club to talk about her debut album, her current favorite artists, Afrobeats, and more. At the start of her conversation, the Nigerian singer was asked about the craziest thing she’s heard about herself, to which she replied, “Probably the pregnancy thing.”

Her comments were in reference to rumors that she and Future would have a baby in 2023. They surfaced online after Tems was spotted adjusting her jacket at Burberry’s Summer 2024 fashion show in London. “I don’t know. I’ve just been busy minding my business, being homeless,” she joked. “It’s just all so crazy.”

The RCA Records signing hilariously added, “I feel like people take the most controversial thing they can think of. I was like, ‘Why am I pregnant with Future?’ So why Future? Why him? That’s the craziest thing. Why not with (Wizkid)? Why not with Drake? Why not with somebody else?”

Most notably, Tems collaborated with Wizkid on “Essence” in 2020, which served as an introduction to both artists for many fans in the US. At the same time, she teamed up with Future and Drake for the Atlanta-based rapper’s chart-topping “WAIT FOR U.” I NEVER LIKED YOU – in particular, their song “Higher” was sampled on the record.

Shortly afterward, DJ Envy, host of “The Breakfast Club,” asked the “Love Me JeJe” singer if her family had confirmed the rumors. “I’ve only gotten prayers,” she said.

Tems previously spoke to The Beat 99.9 FM in Lagos, Nigeria, about receiving “death threats” over speculation that she was expecting a child with Future. “I didn’t actually think anyone believed it. I didn’t know it was serious. I didn’t know until I started getting messages,” she said. “Like, ‘How dare you? Future of all people? Really? Really, Future of all people?’ And I’ve never – I’ve never met him in my life. So, it’s crazy.”
