The city announces retail closures on Thanksgiving weekend

Shoppers and retailers are reminded that under the Retail Business Holidays Act, Thanksgiving Day – Monday, October 14, 2024 – is one of the days of the year when most stores are required to be closed

Buyers and dealers are reminded that under the Retail Holidays ActThanksgiving Day – Monday, October 14, 2024, is one of the days of the year when most businesses must be closed.

The actadministered by the Department of Government and Consumer Services, exempts some retail outlets including, but not limited to, gas stations, garden centers and flower shops.

There is a risk of fines for opening on prohibited retail days. Retail stores found guilty may be fined $50,000 or the total amount of gross sales for the day, whichever is greater. Enforcement of the Retail Holidays Act in the City of Stratford is the responsibility of Stratford Police Services.
