The ground game leads the Dolphins to a 15-10 victory over the New England Patriots

Led by running back duo Jaylen Wright and Raheem Mostert, the Miami Dolphins rushed for 193 yards in their 15-10 victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium.

Wright had his most productive day as a pro, rushing for a career-high 86 yards on 13 carries (6.6 average). Running back Raheem Mostert also played a crucial role in Miami’s rushing attack, hauling in 19 carries for 80 yards (4.2 average) in his first appearance since Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Dolphins’ front seven wreaked havoc on the Patriots’ offensive line with a total of nine quarterback hits. Defensive tackle Zach Sieler led the attack, totaling three quarterback hits and a sack, while defensive tackle Calais Campbell recorded two quarterback hits. Linebacker Emmanuel Ogbah also played in New England’s backfield, recording four tackles and a sack.

Quarterback Tyler Huntley, making his second start for the Dolphins, completed 18 of 31 passes for 194 yards and one interception. He also ran for seven yards on three carries.

Huntley led Miami to points on its first possession of the game. An 18-yard pass to wide receiver Tyreek Hill and two completions to tight end Jonnu Smith were key to the eight-play, 38-yard drive that resulted in kicker Jason Sanders’ 54-yard field goal – his third field goal of more than 50 yards this season.

Sacks by Ogbah and Sieler forced a Patriots three-and-out, but an interception by cornerback Christian Gonzalez on a Huntley pass intended for Hill gave New England the lead in Miami. Four plays later, running back Rhamondre Stevenson followed his blockers for a 33-yard touchdown run that gave the Patriots a 7-3 lead with 3:55 left in the first quarter.

Miami’s next possession resulted in a 41-yard missed field goal, but the Dolphins’ defense forced a three-and-out, allowing New England to punt with 12:54 left in the second quarter.

After a blocked punt, New England took over at the Miami 23-yard line. Miami’s defense held strong and forced Patriots kicker Joey Slye to make a 33-yard field goal, but he missed it wide right.

With less than a minute left in the half, wide receiver Braxton Berrios returned a punt 12 yards to the New England 44-yard line. A 16-yard completion to Smith put the Dolphins just outside the red zone with a chance to score, but a botched snap on a 51-yard field goal attempt left Miami trailing 7-3 at halftime.

Both teams traded field goals on their first drives of the second half. Miami’s eight-play scoring drive included two Patriots penalties and a 12-yard run by rookie running back Jaylen Wright, capped by a 32-yard field goal by Sanders.

After another three-and-out from New England, the Dolphins further extended the Patriots’ lead when Sanders knocked down a 47-yard field goal to bring Miami within one point with 30 seconds left in the third quarter.

The Dolphins retook the lead late in the fourth quarter when their ground game paved the way for a 15-play, 80-yard touchdown drive that took 7:36 of game time. Fullback Alec Ingold scored the decisive goal with a three-yard run through the middle.

New England had two more opportunities to answer, but fell behind in Dolphins territory on both occasions, one resulting in a fourth-down stop and the other as time expired.

Hill led all players with 69 receiving yards on six receptions. Smith rushed for a season-high 62 yards on five catches, and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle caught four passes for 46 yards.

Safety Marcus Maye recorded a season-high nine tackles and a pass deflection, while linebacker Jordyn Brooks totaled seven tackles and cornerback Jalen Ramsey contributed five tackles and two passes defended.

The Dolphins now enter their bye week and return to action in Week 7 in a road game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, October 20th. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on FOX.
