“The guys have stepped up again” | How Ja’Marcus Ingram and the Bills defense led Buffalo to a 2-0 start in 2024

They had to rely on their depth again, as LB Terrel Bernard left the game early with a pectoral injury and did not return. Linebacker Baylon Spector played in his place and kept making plays that helped this defense limit a high-powered Miami offense to just 10 points.

“Unbelievable effort,” QB Josh Allen said of the defense. “Lost TB in the first quarter. Baylon comes in, he’s the green dot. Makes some plays. J’Marc comes in, makes some plays. You know, when you look at the stats… I know we had really little time of possession and probably really little total yards, but still managed to score 31 points and that means your defense is doing something right. They had our backs tonight and we’re going to need them in the future… You know, when you play together like that, you usually get good results.”

The Bills dominated in all three phases of the game. The offense scored on four of five first-half possessions, excluding the kneel-down at the end of the first half, and the defense limited the Dolphins offense’s explosive plays, forcing multiple turnovers and scoring sacks on fourth downs for turnovers on attempts.

“All 11 guys play together, we make it easy,” DT Ed Oliver said. “If everyone does their job, we make it easy for everyone. Nobody has it hard. So if everyone does their job, that’s how you get gifts.”
