The Philadelphia Phillies achieved records at home that were never seen in nearly 50 years of history

The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Chicago Cubs at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday night. The 9-6 win moved the Phillies to 94-65 on the season, while the loss dropped the Cubs to 81-78.

Chicago is out of the playoff race, while Philadelphia is 0.5 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the upcoming National League playoffs for the best record.

The Phillies had 13 hits in the win, including home runs by Trea Turner, Nick Castellanos and Kody Clemens. Castellanos had three hits in the win, Turner had two. Brandon Marsh also had three RBIs.

While home field advantage hasn’t really proven to be an advantage in baseball lately, the Phillies would probably like to secure it considering how well they’ve played at Citizens Bank Park this year.

According to @PhilliesNotes on social media:

The Phillies finished 2024 with a record of 54-26 in 80 games in CBP (.675 winning percentage), tying the CBP record for wins in a season previously set in 2010. That .675 winning percentage in CBP is the second-highest by a Phillies team in its home stadium since at least 1900 (1977, .741).

The Phillies end the regular season this weekend with three games against the weaker Washington Nationals. Philly has Thursday off.

To secure home-court advantage, the Dodgers will also have to endure a few setbacks in their final four games. They play the San Diego Padres on Thursday night before finishing the season with the equally weak Colorado Rockies.
