Young, a fourth-round pick in last year’s draft, appeared in 16 games with one start last season and recorded 18 tackles, one tackle for loss, one pass defensed and one quarterback hit.

Nwosu is placed on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury he sustained in last weekend’s game. That was his first game back after missing the previous four games because of a knee injury and the final 11 games of last season because of a pectoral injury, a serious injury story for a player who before the pectoral injury had narrowly missed three games in his first over five seasons.

“Unfortunately, we will be placing Chenna on IR,” Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said Wednesday. “Timeline, we’re not sure, but we think there’s a really good chance of getting him back by the end of the season. We are with him now, he needs our support. The guy’s been through a tough time and he’s going to fight back better than ever, but it’s just unfortunate for him, he’s a guy that we lean on as a team, he’s a leader in our defense and in ours Football team opportunity to come back and be healthy and fresh for the final run of the season.”

Raising Okada gives the Seahawks additional safety depth as starter Julian Love is listed as questionable for the game with a hamstring injury. Macdonald said Wednesday that Love would be a game-day decision. Sheriff, an undrafted rookie out of South Alabama, will make his Seahawks debut if he is active for the game. Sheriff was a standout player for the Seahawks in the preseason, but was claimed by Carolina after the Seahawks waived him as part of the 53-man reduction. After Carolina waived Sheriff last month, the Seahawks quickly added him to their practice squad.

Sheriff will give the Seahawks additional depth with Nwosu out and Boye Mafe and Derick Hall both listed as questionable, although Macdonald has said those two are expected to be available.
