Destination Hotels & Resorts

The Shay, part of Destination by Hyatt, is pleased to welcome The José Andrés Group (JAG) as the exclusive food and beverage operations manager at The Shay, effective September 1, 2024. In this role, JAG will manage all aspects of the food and beverage experience at The Shay, including two new restaurants, in-room dining, the lobby bar, and meetings and events.

This fall, JAG will introduce Zaytinya on the lobby level, offering innovative mezze inspired by the rich regional diversity of Turkey, Greece and Lebanon. Building on Chef José Andrés’ extensive knowledge of Mediterranean cuisine and years of research and travel, the menu will feature small, communal plates of authentic and inventive dishes, creative cocktails and unique Mediterranean wines. Additionally, JAG will soon open a new signature rooftop restaurant and bar at The Shay, featuring coveted views and the only rooftop pool in Culver City.

“We are truly excited to partner with the creative and culinary professionals of the José Andrés Group,” said Adam Edelman, General Manager at The Shay. “The level of excellence the group is known for will further elevate the hotel’s culinary and event experiences.”

JAG is behind 40 acclaimed dining concepts, including the Michelin-starred Minibar by José Andrés in Washington, DC, and the eclectic Bazaar by José Andrés restaurants, each with its own distinctive character across eight locations. With restaurants in Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Orlando and Washington, DC, JAG has made a significant impact on the culinary scene.

Expanding its influence beyond the box, JAG launched José Andrés Media (JAM) in 2021 to explore food culture through compelling stories. Today, JAM produces a dynamic range of content, including scripted and unscripted television series, books, podcasts, and short and medium format digital content, continuing to shape the narrative of food culture.

“Culver City is a vibrant entertainment hub where people from film and television come together to tell stories. Similarly, at José Andrés Group, we see the exchange of different culinary cultures through our food – from our media projects to our menus,” adds Sam Bakhshandehpour, Global CEO of José Andrés Group.

Located in the heart of Culver City, The Shay benefits from proximity to prominent entertainment studios such as Amazon, Warner Bros., Discovery/HBO, Sony and Apple, making it a hub for connecting the creative community, visitors and locals. The hotel’s interiors are both inviting and eclectic, with homey comforts and unique details that complement the unconventional layout. Reminiscent of a cozy living room, the lobby features a private game room and expansive seating areas with a fireplace with 360-degree views, while the rooftop pool area offers ample space for socializing, swimming and enjoying the California sun.

The Shay is centrally located in Los Angeles, just a short drive from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, between Santa Monica and Downtown LA, Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. The 148-room boutique hotel is the closest upscale branded hotel to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) that is not an airport hotel. As part of Ivy Station, an award-winning mixed-use development, The Shay is located at the epicenter of Culver City’s creative core, offering a dynamic blend of art, culture and hospitality.
