The wait is over, Seguin gets a future Chick-fil-A restaurant

The wait is over, Seguin gets a future Chick-fil-A restaurant

(Seguin) — A popular chicken restaurant is finally coming to the Seguin area. The Seguin City Council on Tuesday approved two agreements with Chick-fil-A that will allow the fast-food restaurant to begin construction sometime next year. The restaurant will be built near the corner of I-10 Access Road and CH Matthies Drive, next to Bill Miller’s Bar-B-Q.

The city officially announced the agreement in a post shared on social media. The video featured Seguin Mayor Donna Dodgen flanked by council members Jason Biesenbach and Bill Keller. Dodgen pretended to open a meeting, but was interrupted by someone dressed as the famous cows from Chick-fil-A’s past advertising campaigns. It was, of course, City Manager Steve Parker, who then served up a ton of Chick-fil-A treats.

In this video, people can hear Mayor Dodgen questioning an interruption at the beginning of a meeting.

“What’s going on? Sir! No! No! We can’t keep livestock in the council chamber. Where are the police when you need someone? Oh my God, what’s going on?”

As Parker presents Chick-fil-A bags to the city council, he then says, “We have good news!”

The video ends with Dodgen announcing the news: “Oh wow! Seguin, it’s coming!”

The city has been working on this for years and the population has been demanding it for almost as long – if not longer. Completing the deal apparently required not only the cooperation of city staff, but also the support of the Seguin Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) and the Seguin City Council.

The council approved two agreements. The first called for what is known as a Chapter 380 agreement. According to the Texas Comptroller’s Office, a Chapter 380 agreement allows a taxing authority, such as the city of Seguin, to negotiate sales tax incentives with a developer if the project meets certain benchmarks. The second item approved by the council laid out those benchmarks, which were contained in a performance agreement. Full details of both agreements were not immediately released.

Chick-fil-A is known for its high-quality food and excellent customer service. The facility is scheduled to break ground next year.

City officials say there is no set opening date at this time, but that it will be determined over the next few months as the real estate and development process progresses.

On social media, people were quick to react to the news, saying things like, “Best news ever” and “I’m excited we’re getting a company with top-notch customer service and great food.”

There have been calls for more retail and restaurant development in Seguin over the years. Chick-fil-A would be another player contributing to the growth near the intersection of Interstate 10 and Highway 46. In recent years, Burger King, Chicken Express, Taco Bell and Domino’s Pizza have opened in the area. They join Whataburger, Jack-In-The-Box, Subway, McDonald’s, Bill Miller’s and Garcia’s Mexican Restaurant already located in the area.

The SEDC’s Facebook page said: “Our community has long awaited this project and we are thrilled to see it finally become a reality. We can’t wait to see the positive impact on our local economy and the new opportunities it will create.”
