The reliever tried to throw a warmup throw and said he felt his calf grab him. At that time, he left the game with a trainer and was scheduled to undergo imaging on Friday.

With the Yankees replacing him on the roster, Hamilton will be ineligible to play in the World Series if the Yankees make it there.

Leiter had been left off the ALDS and ALCS rosters after struggling following a trade from the Cubs at the deadline.

The right-hander posted a 4.98 ERA in 21 games with the Yankees, allowing six home runs in 21 ⅔ innings. He has the potential to be a swing-and-miss but has been hurt by the ball too many times.

The injury marks the end of a frustrating season for Hamilton, who also missed nearly three months of the regular season with a lat strain.
