WALMART customers are expressing their disdain for the chain after some shoppers were forced to wait in exorbitantly long lines.

A Walmart customer took to Facebook to vent his frustration, posting a photo of the long line and poor customer service he experienced at the supermarket.

“Walmart needs to improve,” posted Zack Alleyne, a shopper from South Carolina.

“There is no way I am going to wait in that line,” he said.

“If we have to monitor the self-checkouts, then we are taking away their ability to do so,” he argued.

The line was longer before I left,” he continued.

“I left a shopping cart full of stuff in aisle 3,” he said.

“I apologize,” he said in his post to the staff who had to put his things back.

Numerous comments under the post agreed with Alleyne.

“The scan and go is even worse,” wrote Gynielle Young.

“They actually count your items too,” Gail Brown commented on the limitations of the chain’s self-checkouts.

“Sales will decline and prices will rise, because who has time for that every time they go shopping?” she asked.

“It took me about 30 minutes to check out on Saturday.”

Alleyne is not the first customer to leave his full shopping cart in the store after seeing the queue.

“I just walked out of Walmart and left a cart full of groceries,” Albert John shared on Facebook.

“Seems like this Walmart is all about self-scanning tonight and I’m just not going to do their job,” he continued.

Another customer recently complained that there were at least ten employees present in her store and only two cash registers were open.

The buyer said she tried to purchase 16 items.

Latest changes to self-checkout

Retailers are developing their self-checkout strategies to shorten checkout times and reduce theft.

Walmart customers were shocked when self-checkout lanes at several locations were made available only to Walmart+ members.

Other customers reported that the self-checkout lanes were closed at certain times and more cashiers were offered instead.

While customers feared that shoplifting was the reason for the changes, a Walmart spokesperson said store managers were simply experimenting with ways to improve checkout performance.

One bizarre experiment involved an RFID-supported self-checkout kiosk that was intended to eliminate the hotly contested receipt check.

However, this test run was discontinued.

At Target, the number of items at self-checkout lanes is limited.

Last fall, the brand tested new express self-checkout lanes with a maximum of 10 items in 200 stores to increase convenience.

Starting in March 2024, this policy will be expanded to 2,000 stores in the United States.

Customers have also noticed that their local Walmart stores are limiting the number of customers at self-checkout lanes to 15 items or less.

However, since the store’s self-checkout is limited to a maximum of 15 items, she had to wait in a long line.

She said she saw three employees counting items to enforce the rule, but still only two cash registers were open.

She also claimed that the other four or five people she counted were working at the store’s self-checkout lanes, supervising them as the line moved slowly and grew longer over time.

“Food Lion would never do that to me,” Alleyne concluded his post.
