Laverne Cox and Nava Mau shared an emotional moment on the Emmys red carpet.

Cox was moved to tears when he saw the Baby reindeer Star during the live broadcast of Live from E!

“I’m so excited… Nava… join me…” Cox said before hugging the actress in an emotional moment. “I have to pull myself together, I’m the host.”

After regaining her composure, Cox said to Mau, “I’m so proud of you. This show is so incredible and the work you do is so amazing.”

Cox reminded viewers that ten years ago she was the first openly transgender person to be nominated for an Emmy for Best Actress.

“And ten years later, I’m not the last,” Cox continued. “You’re the fourth and the first in this category.”

Mau is nominated for her role as Teri in Netflix’ Baby reindeer for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries, Anthology or Movie.

“I think we’ve fought as a community to be able to tell stories that come from the heart and are grounded in humanity, because that’s who we are as trans people, we’re human first,” Mau said. “That’s the best thing to celebrate, in my opinion. Baby reindeerthat it is actually an LGBT show. It’s a show that has a trans character in it, and it’s a really good show, too, and I’m very proud of that. And ultimately, I hope that we can continue to be all that we are as trans people on screen.”

At the end of the interview, Cox told Mau: “I’m so happy for you. Congratulations. Have a great time tonight. You are making history and making us all so proud.”
